The current picture

Mental health issues in young people have increased dramatically since the onset of Covid-19.  One in six young people aged 5-16 identified as having a mental health problem in July 2020 and 80% of those with mental health needs agree that the Covid-19 pandemic has made it worse.  Around 75% of young people who seek mental health treatment become more unwell whilst waiting for help and those with emerging mental health problems who do not meet the threshold for clinical services, are often left with no help at all.  After years of government cuts, there’s a black hole in youth and community services that could provide essential early support.  In practice, this means that many of the spaces where young people could previously have talked with a trusted adult and discuss coping strategies, now no longer exist.  Ynot Aspire has effective solutions to help those most in need.  Our external evaluations show that we have a proven track record in helping young people to reach their potential by taking an asset-based approach to our work and giving them the space, skills, tools, time and knowledge to build their confidence and their resilience. We provide prevention and early intervention projects with young people aged 10-18, offering one-to-one and group work activities to promote positive mental health and wellbeing.  Over 95% of young people we work with report having improved self-confidence, a greater awareness of mental health and wellbeing, where to go for support and better coping strategies as a result of working with us.

Mental Health Support

We provide a range of projects and activities to support young people’s mental health and wellbeing, from drop-in sessions at school to more in depth one-to-one support with one of our staff or volunteers.  Now more than ever, young people need our support to overcome the issues that the pandemic has brought and help them to build their resilience and coping skills so they can look forward to a brighter future.

As a small grass-roots charity, every penny really does help us to support young people in Hyndburn and give them the opportunity to thrive.

A thank you from our young people

"The last few years have been really hard for me, more so this year because of the situation. Thanks to the help from Ynot Aspire, I am finding the tools I can use and the people I can turn to when things get tough. Thanks to your donation, Ynot Aspire will be able to continue their great work"

"I was sofa surfing and only had the clothes that I stood up in. I had no money and would often go hungry as I couldn’t afford food. As a result, it was hard to motivate myself to attend College – when you are hungry and haven’t got the smart clothes others have. Just what you are standing up in. It’s hard to sleep properly on a sofa. Thanks to support from Ynot Aspire, I now have a home to live in and money in my pocket. You can’t imagine how good that feels. Thanks to your donations, other young people will be able to receive the great support that I have from them"
