Youth Worker
Overall Purpose of the role:
To provide one-to-one and group support to young people experiencing low-level mental health issues which: improves resilience and protective factors, support enhancement of parenting and life skills as well as supporting young people to improve educational attendance and attainment. To liaise with parents and work with children to increase the skills, confidence and abilities of all family members to live their daily lives in a positive and safe way. Also to take the lead in setting up our Youth Leadership Project, engaging young people in their community and future opportunities.
The role will include:
- Making initial contact with families and relevant agencies for more information
- Feeding back to referrers on what course of action has been agreed
- Liaising with other agencies to refer young people on where appropriate
- Work on a one-to one basis with the young person (and families where necessary and appropriate) to address the issues, help them develop coping skills and strategies and therefore build resilience and promote self-efficacy.
- Promote the benefits of education, training and employment and offer support around this.
- Set up and lead on our new Youth Leadership Project, engaging young leaders across the borough to help shape their future.
The role is for 25 hours per week (with the possibility of increased hours after probationary period) for 12 months but with possibility of being extended subject to funding. Salary £21,795.00 pro rata.Â
